History

The New York Sustainable Business Council (NYSBC) works directly with business leaders, regional business networks, and allied organizations to advance a vibrant, just, and sustainable economic future throughout the Empire State.

NYSBC was founded in 2013 by a group of forward-thinking entrepreneurs and professional associations across New York who understood the importance of leveraging a unified voice to advocate for a more equitable and environmentally friendly economy.

The current political and regulatory reality in New York too often pits activists against heavily funded corporate lobbyists pushing an oft-repeated falsehood that portrays strong economies as incompatible with clean environments and healthy communities. Yet, the vast majority of businesses in New York State are small, independent, and local. NYSBC has effectively demonstrated that by raising their collective voice and introducing a business ethic that prioritizes the “triple bottom line” (people-planet-profit), we can shift this backward narrative and neutralize heavy-handed big-business influence in ways that enable socially and environmentally responsible leadership.
